Glos. Schools performances at Gateshead, National Track and Field Champs,
Friday / Saturday 7 and 8 July 2006

Gloucestershire came second overall in the Group C competition. The Senior Boys came first, the Junior Boys came third, the Intermediate Girls third in their various age categories

James Cambell - SB Javelin (71.94m), James Brewer - SB 800m (1.52.73), Emily Pidgeon - SG 1500m (4.18.24) and Sarah Hopkinson - IG 1500m (4.32.45) all won their events.

James Campbell's throw turned out to be a new Scottish senior and Junior record !

In all, eight of the Gloucestershire team achieved National Standard performances in their events (Tim Williams and Alex Warner in the Hammer, Sam Cook in the 200m, Louise Hawkins in the 300m, Sarah Hopkinson in the 1500m, James Brewer in the 800m, James Campbell in the Javelin & Emily Pidgeon in the 1500m)

Felix Elliott-Berry opened his long jump with a confident first jump of around 5.50m. With a good series of jumps he qualified to the final on day 2.

Jennie Batten (100m) had a superb first National champs. she progressed confidently from heat to semi and then finished 4th in the final and all with a year in hand.

James Slee (Pole vault) in his first nationals came close to his pb and 10cm more would have put him amongst the medals

Julia Cooke (800m) Julia attacked her 800 in heat 2 to ensure a place in the final by running faster than anyone in the first heat. In the final, Julia again ran well to produce a strong finish in a faster time.

Alex Chittenden (400mH) - close to her pb to get to the final but sadly had to withdraw due to a right foot injury

James Campbell (Javelin)- had the full attention of the whole stadium to produce a series of throws all over the world junior qualifying distance.

James Brewer - (800m) James governed his heat giving him a middle lane for the final. The opposition were not going to allow James the same freedom in the final. Settling in the pack for the first 600m, James then began to show his cards. Off the final bend a through another gear or two it was clear that a sprint finish was in the offing. 30m out James, neck and neck with Aston from Cambridge, showed more than enough speed for James to ease away with a 5m gap

Andrew De-Camps - (800m) challenged well to place him 4th in his heat. This was not enough to get him into the final due to faster heats to follow

Jamie Horder - (400mH) - set off well in his heat and did not produce his present form.

Jamie Courtenay (Shot) - as personal best to put himself on the podium in 6th in his first nationals

Gareth Winter (Shot) - 11th in his first nationals

Patrick Cuthbert - (Javelin) first national experience.

Ben Coldray - (1500m) moved up from the 800m in 2005 to the 1500m had his work cut out. Nearing a pb in his heat was not quite enough to get him through to the final. No doubt that when Ben moves up next year he may tackle his more promising distance of 3k.

Sam Cook - (200m) performed well in the heat to produce a quick time to win her heat - where in the final 4th place was a strong performance

Ander Russell - (3000m) with a tackle start, Ander got into the race and came home a little off the pace

Neil Crossley (110mH) - after a unnatural slow start in the heat, Neil was fast enough to gain a place a in the final. The final was not the performance he was looking for.

Matthew Withey - (3000m) after a careful first couple of laps, Matt moved up well through the field to finish 11th.

Kate Yhnell - (Hammer) A solid performance to place 7th overall

Nikita Morgan - (Hammer) showed a promising debut

Louise Hawkins (300m)- produced a pb in the heat to come 6th in the final. Produced 2 national standard runs.

Tim Williams - (Hammer) 5th with a very good national standard throw.

Sarah Hopkinson - (1500m) a convincing win - little else to say except a fine performance !

Emily Pidgeon - (1500m) again, a strong performance never once challenged.
