Vacation reading lists have long been a staple of the education system, and the lists are often long and varied. Educators know the importance of reading and comprehension, so they do their best to ensure students will find at least one book they want to read. It is hardly surprising that many of the books are fictional, and none of them are the dry text books students encounter during the year. Educators know they need to capture the imagination of the younger generation if they are trying to encourage them to continue reading.

Reading for most students is an agonizing chore, and they are often uninterested in the subject matter. Books for them are comprised mostly of facts they need to recall whenever there is a test, so there is little doubt they enjoy their assignments. Many of them are turned off by the prospect of reading, and that is why it is so important to help them find the educational value of books they will enjoy.
